Scouting Report
Matthias Algarin is definitely one to watch out for in the class of 2020! He is a solid Wide Receiver /Defensive Back that attends Pierz Healy High School in Pierz, Minnesota. Matthias is very athletic and showcases an impressive 6'1" /170lb solid frame. A pure athlete who is a great talent on both sides of the ball. Very good athlete, great feet, and ball skills. Solid speed and quickness. Excellent route runner. Playmaker when the ball is in his hands. Solid junior season in 2018 averaging over 25 yards per reception and 5 receiving touchdowns. As, a running back Matthias displays very good lower and upper body strength and balance. He is a versatile back with great hands out of the backfield. He has very good ball skills and ball security. Matthias has very good body control and the ability to change directions in space and displays very good patience allowing plays to develop with great instincts to visualize and hit opening. Once in space he has good speed to create explosive plays. Matthias has an aggressive running style, with the ability to make tacklers miss but has more of a punishing attitude when carrying the ball. He definitely wants to deliver the blow on his opponents. He carried the ball for over 700 yards averaging 10.5 yards per carry on the season and averaged over 40 yards per carry in the playoffs.
Defensively Matthias is a very versatile and physical player with good speed and ball skills. Excellent tackler who has a knack for creating turnovers and always seems to be around the ball. Matthias has good closing speed and runs the alley well. Defensively he is solid in coverage, showcases smooth fluid hips and gets in and out of his break really well. Matthias engages and separates from blocks extremely well. He is a fierce competitor with great instincts and play sideline to sideline with solid open field tackler. He loves contact.
Matthias is a vocal leader but most of all he leads by example on and off the field. Matthias’ commitment to football and his strong moral values are what coaches are looking for in their program. He would be an asset for many college football programs. Matthias carries a 4.0 GPA and is a high honor roll student. Matthias definitely projects as solid collegiate prospect.

Personal Message
My name is Matthias Algarin, a class of 2020 Athlete from Pierz Healy High School in Pierz, Minnesota. If I were to best describe myself in a few simple words, I’d say I’m a fierce competitor. Ever since I was young I competed in everything I could, striving to be the very best. Whether it was on the field, on the track, or in the classroom I did everything I could to be the best. My desire was not just at the local or state level, but I wanted to be the very best in the country. In 8th grade I reached this elite level, ranking #1 in the country for the class of 2020 in both the Long and Triple Jump.
Shortly after achieving that status, my success was derailed by a serious femur fracture. The recovery was long and arduous, but 18 months later I was back to an elite level. Unfortunately, that recovery time left me a virtual unknown in recruiting circles. During that time I was unable to attend camps, combines or track meets, making no name for myself.
My first healthy season back I turned out a 4.47 in my 40, people at the competition seemed shocked. They wondered who I was and where I came from. Later that year, when I averaged 25 yds a reception and posted 250 yards in 2 playoff games on 6 total carries, people were shocked and wondered if I was some kind of “late bloomer”. This indoor track season when I jumped 23’-2” in my long jump, everyone said the same thing. The fact is I’ve always been here, clawing and fighting my way back to prominence.
Even though my injury took precious time away from me and I only have a few short months to make a lasting impression, my fierce competitive nature keeps me motivated toward the prize. So if your looking for a dedicated playmaker with grit and backbone, then I’m your man. I’m a 6-1, 170#, 4.4 running, 300# benching, out of the gym jumping beast from Minnesota who isn’t afraid to run over, around or through you in a blizzard. I’m at the top of my class with a 4.0 GPA. I’m the type of kid who leads by example, makes no excuses and brings out the best in others. I love my team, my family and my Lord. I want to be the man my Dad is and inspire my children to dream beyond themselves.
