Personal Message

Hi my name is Demitri Carter, I’m a Senior at Smyrna High School that will be graduating in 2022. I started running track during my 7th grade year. That year I tried out and made the team where I participated in one of the relays and where I ran the 800m. Fast forward to my 8th grade year where my goal was to become a little bit faster during the indoor season. I trained really hard and qualified for the USATF Hershey Indoor Nationals at Ocean Breeze in NYC. I ended up making Finals and came in 5th overall in the 55m, 3rd overall in the 400m, 3rd overall for our 4x400m relay and 2nd overall for our 4x200m relay at the indoor nationals. This was a huge momentum swing going into my outdoor season (still in middle school). I kept on pushing myself really hard because I knew I could be even better than what I currently was. My goal was to PR in every single race I ran. Fast forward again to the summer of my 8th grade year, where I qualified for the USATF Outdoor Nationals. I placed 12th in the open 400m and made semi-finals in the 200m. This was really big for me considering it was only my second year running track.

During my freshman year of high school, my goal was to be a state champ. I knew I had the hunger and drive to become that state champion. I fell a little short that year, placing 6th at States in the open 400m. For my Sophomore year, I had the same goal of becoming a State Champion, which this time around became true. I anchored our 4x200m to 1st place and I won the open 400m, which I ended up qualifying for New Balance Nationals. Unfortunately, due to Covid, the meet was cancelled. During the off season I trained by myself the entire spring, summer and fall time, waiting for my Junior season to start. Through this training I learned the value of self-discipline and being consistent with my own training. Staying in shape wasn't easy, but I got it done. During the indoor season (which was held outside in February and March due to Covid) I won the 55m, 200m and anchored the 4x400m to 1st place. For my performance at States, I was named “Indoor Athlete of the Year”, which was voted on by the coaches in Delaware.

Going into my outdoor season my goal was to continue dominating. My goal was to get into the 21’s in the 200m. That goal was accomplished at the Polytech Invitational, where I ran a 21.86. The next week, at our conference meet, I placed 1st in the 100m (10.96), 200m (21.56) and 400m (49.93). The 21.56 for the 200m made the US Gold Performance. The 21.56 I ran allowed me to qualify for NSATF Meet of Champions. Due to all of my performances, I was also nominated for the U.S.A Today’s Boys Track Athlete of the Year. My goal this season is to run 20.5s in the 200m and 46.9s in the 400m. My work ethic and drive is what separates me from everyone else as a lot of people have natural talent, but not everyone has my drive.

I feel I can be an asset and fit in any college program. I am looking for the right fit from an academic and athletic perspective to continue my career. I am open to talk to any coach who is interested.

Feel free to contact me anytime and I hope to hear from you soon!!!!

Regards,

Demitri Carter
